For those who worship Vishnu it is Haridwar (Hari stands for Rama), Shivaits know it as a Hardwar (“Hara” one of the names for Shiva). It is Tapobhumi or land of spiritual practices and sages, where one can acquire knowledge leading to enlightenment.
Rishikesh – yoga capital of the world, famous for its ashrams on the banks of Ganges.
Uttrakashi – highly revered holy town, as it holds the origin point of Ganges and Yamuna, also called as lifeline of India. Uttrakashi spellbinds with its green landscapes, hillocks, waterfalls, lakes, sources and impressive mountain sceneries.
Gangotri- source of the Ganges and the principal place of Ganga Devi worship.
Yamunotri – the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the Goddess Yamuna in Himalayas.
Kedarnath is among the major Shiva temples of India. Here Shiva is worshipped as a mystic yogi who is meditating in the mountains. It is said that in Kedranath one is “On the threshold of eternity”
Badrinath or the abode of Lord Vishnu. Nandaprayag and Devprayag
